Children's size guide: choosing correctly from birth to 10 years

A sewing tape measure, two minutes and this guide: you will know which size to order, and for how many months.

The question we are asked most often is not "which colour?" but "which size?". And that is normal: between a label that says "4 years", a child who grows in spurts and cuts that change from one brand to another, choosing without trying requires a method. Here it is, the one we use for our own children.

56 → 140cm, the 12 sizes from 0 to 10 years

The golden rule: measure height, not age

The age on the label is an average. European sizing (56, 62, 68… up to 140) corresponds to the child's height in centimetres. This is the only reliable information: two 4-year-old children can measure 98 or 110 cm, and wear two sizes apart.

  1. Measure standing up, without shoesBack against a wall, heels on the floor, looking straight ahead. Place a book flat on the head and mark the wall with a pencil.
  2. Read the height in centimetresFrom the floor to the mark. For a baby who cannot stand up, measure lying down, from the top of the head to the heels, leg straight.
  3. Find the size in the tableTake the first size whose maximum height exceeds the measurement. Example: 101 cm → size 104 (4 years).
  4. Think about the seasonA winter garment is worn for 5 to 6 months: if there is less than 2 cm of margin left, take the next size up.

The size chart

Standard sizes of the European brands we offer. The "margin" column tells you how long a garment bought exactly to size will be worn on average.

Size Indicative age Height (cm) Worn for approximately
56 1 month 51 – 56 4 to 6 weeks
62 3 months 57 – 62 2 months
68 6 months 63 – 68 3 months
74 9 months 69 – 74 3 months
80 12 months 75 – 80 4 months
86 18 months 81 – 86 6 months
92 2 years 87 – 92 8 months
98 3 years 93 – 98 10 months
104 4 years 99 – 104 12 months
110 5 years 105 – 110 12 months
116 6 years 111 – 116 12 months
128 8 years 117 – 128 18 months
140 10 years 129 – 140 18 months
Why does 128 jump to 140?Sizes 128 and 140 each cover two years: growth slows down slightly between 6 and 10 years, and the cuts for these sizes are designed to last.

Une taille bien choisie, c'est un enfant qui court, saute et oublie ce qu'il porte.
A well-chosen size means a child who runs, jumps and forgets what they are wearing.

Special cases

  • Dresses and pinaforesThey are worn for a long time: first long, then as a tunic with leggings. Choose the exact size.
  • Trousers and dungareesLeg length matters more than height. Our dungarees have adjustable straps: the next size up fits without any problem.
  • Rompers and pyjamasA baby sleeps with their legs curled up: choose the next size up as soon as the margin is less than 3 cm.
  • Hats and accessoriesMeasure the head circumference above the ears. Baby 0-12 months: 40 to 46 cm; 1-3 years: 47 to 50 cm; 3-10 years: 50 to 54 cm.
Between two sizes, choose the larger one for winter, and the exact one for summer. A slightly long jumper can be rolled up; a dress that is too short cannot be lengthened. Our house rule

And does cotton shrink?

Quality cotton, washed at 30 °C and air-dried, moves by 1 to 2 % during the first wash, which is less than one centimetre on 4-year-old trousers. Knits and fleece are slightly more sensitive: hence our advice to dry them flat. We have detailed all of this in our care guide.

Ana's word

Ana, mother of Sasha and Noah

For Noah, I always buy autumn trousers in September, one size up, and I make a two-centimetre hem that I undo at Christmas. One pair of trousers, all season long, zero knees showing.

Frequently asked questions

I cannot measure my child, I am ordering a gift. What should I do?

Choose the size corresponding to the age in 3 months. For a newborn, size 62 (3 months) is the most useful: size 56 is only worn for a few weeks. And our exchanges are free within 14 days.

Do Spanish brands fit differently?

Our brands follow European sizes in centimetres. When a cut is particularly fitted or loose, we indicate it on the product page.

My child is between two sizes?

For a winter garment or a piece they will wear for a long time (dungarees, dress), take the larger one. For a t-shirt or summer shorts, take the exact one.

And if it doesn't fit?

Write to us at info@sasha-noah.ch with your order number within 14 days: we will send you a return label and the correct size will be sent out.

Do you have the measurement? All that's left is to choose.
